A robot is a machine that assists humans or simplifies their tasks. In the world of robotics, We can imagine how much easier things will be. It has the potential to decrease the demand for human labour in the construction industry. It can completely function as a human, and as we all know, it can imitate and act like one. Its misuse on the other hand, can be harmful to the environment. Various robots are in the works.
These exaggerated, humanoid robot designs often seem to be caricatures of the real thing…or are they more foresighted than we realise? Robots are evolving cognitive and mechanical capacities that do not rule out the possibility of an R2-D2-like computer in the future.

Development of Robotics

World’s first humanoid robot Sophia

Egyptian water clocks used human figurines to strike the hour bells, and was one of the first instances of a mechanical system designed to perform a specific physical activity on a daily basis around 3000 B.C. Archytus of Taremtum, the inventor of the pulley and the screw, also produced a flying wooden pigeon in 400 B.C.
George C. Devol, an inventor from Louisville, Kentucky, invented the first robots that we know today in the early 1950s. He invented and patented the “Unimate,” or “Universal Automation,” reprogrammable manipulator. He tried unsuccessfully for the next decade to sell his product in the industry.Joseph Engleberger, a businessman and engineer, bought Devol’s robot patent in the late 1960s and was able to modify it into an industrial robot, forming Unimation to manufacture and market the robots. Engleberger is known as the “Father of Robotics” in the industry because of his accomplishments.
Mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, information engineering, mechatronics, electronics, bioengineering, computer engineering, control engineering, and software engineering are just a few of the fields that are covered by robotics.

Types of Robotics

Pre-Programmed Robot:

Pre-programmed robots perform basic, repetitive tasks in a controlled environment. A mechanical arm on an automobile assembly line is an example of a pre-programmed robot. The arm has just one task to do — weld a door shut, put a component into the engine, etc. — and it’s job is to do it easier, quicker, and longer than a person might.

Humanoid Robot:

Humanoid robots replicate and/or behave like humans. These robots generally perform human-like tasks (such as running, jumping, and carrying objects) and are often built to imitate humans, with human-like faces and expressions. Hanson Robotics’ Sophia and Boston Dynamics’ Atlas are two of the most well-known humanoid robots.

Autonomous Robot:

Robots that are autonomous function without the help of humans. Usually, these robots are designed to perform tasks in open spaces without the need for human supervision. The Roomba vacuum cleaner, which uses sensors to roam freely around a house, is an example of an autonomous robot.

How robots are programmed

Working in robotics necessitates the learning of programming skills. We’ll go through programming basics, key languages, and how to get started with Arduino and Raspberry Pi in this phase.For example, a robot’s face recognition software will take an image of an individual as input, search the image for a particular set of features, compare these features to a library of recognised faces, find a match, and then return the person’s name as an output. According to a paper, robots will become critical components in a variety of applications over the next decade, and robots combined with AI will be able to perform complex acts that are capable of learning from humans, driving the intelligent automation phenomenon.
